Everyone should be detoxing at least four times a year between the pesticides and parasites on our foods, heavy metals in our water and air (and pharmaceuticals and vaccines), and the deficiencies of our leaky guts (thanks antibiotics, gluten, and pasteurized dairy).
It’s long been known that the change of the seasons is the time to do that. First, your body is already going through changes and must adjust to new weather, and maybe a new schedule. Many (actually all) “illnesses” are just your body trying to get the toxins out.
Keep in mind that all illness symptoms - diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, colds or any mucus leaving the body, fevers, are all just trying to rid your body of toxins. Why stop it? It will go go deeper to cause chronic illness or cancer.
You want to gently remove the toxins, then add the essential vitamins and minerals back in - gently and cheaply.
This is also a great starter detox for those who have never detoxed or have just tried the boxed pills at Walgreen’s (not a real detox).
Mix 3 tablespoons of diatomaceous earth and 2 tablespoons of bentonite clay in a glass jar. (Doesn’t matter how much you make, just make more as you go in this proportion).
Vitamin and Mineral Mix
Mix tablespoons each of dried, loose organic: nettle, alfalfa and astralagus.
Add dandelion leaf or milk thistle for liver support if you are not regularly using these herbs to support your liver.
Start with your Detox Mix, and take 1 teaspoon mixed in filtered or distilled water 1-3 times per day for 5 days. Start with one serving, and watch your symptoms. If you vomit or have diarrhea, you have a large toxin load and may need to go even slower, or start with the Vitamin and Mineral Mix first, and liver support herbs. Drink lots of water during this time.
After 5 days of detoxing, take 1-2 teaspoons of the Vitamin and Mineral Mix as tea or infusion (longer steeped tea) daily, up to three times per day.
You can do another round of 5 days of Detox Mix followed by Vitamin and Mineral Mix if you’d like, or still have detox symptoms.
Should I Detox?
Pregnancy/Breastfeeding: Diatomaceous earth (DE) kills parasites and will open their body inside your intestines. Bentonite clay will grab toxins, including metals, pesticides, and parasite particles. DE is safe, in my opinion, for breastfeeding, but not pregnancy, for those who have detoxed for years and have monitored their heavy metal loads. The parasites have likely been feeding on metals, and when they die, the metals will be exposed in your gut - but picked up and carried out by the clay. If you haven’t, then skip the DE and only ingest the clay. This will simply pull anything out of the gut and not bring it to the milk nor placenta.
Fertility: This is safe and a very, very good idea to use before trying to get pregnant.
Children: This protocol is safe for children who can detox. Cut the dose in half for children ages 7-14, and in a quarter for children under 7. Do not detox children under 3, who should be breastfeeding still. Monitor children very closely during the Detox Mix, and be sure they can and are drinking double the water. The Vitamin and Mineral Mix is safe for them (and in fact, is probably better than their current multivitamin).
What Should I Expect?
If you become ill during the detox - that is you detoxing. Headaches, vomiting, diarrhea show that your body is too toxic to detox right now.. You can switch to the Vitamin and Mineral Mix, and try again in a week with the Detox Mix at half the dose. Normal detox symptoms may include extra pooping, mucus from the nose or lungs, mild rashes, and other symptoms that show the body is trying to move toxins out.
When detoxing, it’s ideal to eat a simple vegetarian diet - mainly focusing on fruits and vegetables. Wash well or avoid fruits from South America (which may have parasites on the outside, and you don’t want to repopulate your guts with that right now).
